Vaughan City Council votes against pay raise

VAUGHAN, Ont. – Mayor Rob Ford’s penny pinching ways may be catching on.

Vaughan City Council voted against getting their annual pay raise, Tuesday.

“In these times of economic challenges, Council has decided to take a leadership role and decline a pay raise, even though City policy provides for one,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.

Non-union staff will get a financial bump to bring them in line with cost of living but councillors have voted yes to a salary freeze.
