Early on Thursday morning, Environment Canada issued a snow squall warning for York-Durham.
It couldn’t have come as a surprise: It’s been a snowy week for the province, with storms and highway closures across Ontario.
Huron-Perth, Grey-Bruce, Dufferin-Innisfil, Barrie-Orillia-Midland, and Peterborogh-Kawartha Lakes are also affected by the alert.
Up to 15 centimetres of snow are expected.
As for Toronto, we’ll see clouds with sunny periods and a 30 per cent chance of flurries on Thursday. While we won’t have as much snow as other parts of the province – only two to four centimetres are in the forecast – we will share in their cold temperatures.
The high is 0C and by evening, that should fall to -9C.
Highway 402 was shut down Monday in the face of drifting snow and zero visibility, leaving some 300 motorists no choice but to spend the night in their vehicles awaiting rescue.
Now, there are reports that some people reported gouging by tow truck companies, with some companies allegedly charging as much as $400. Jim Bradley, Ontario’s minister of community safety, told The Canadian Press the standard towing charge is about $55.
