Boys breastfed until 6 months do better in school, new study says

A new study found that boys who were breastfed until 6 months of age or older did considerably better in school compared to those who were bottle fed.

Researchers looked at the academic scores of more than 1,000 10-year-olds in western Australia.

They found those who were mainly breastfed fared better on standardized tests, especially the boys.

Researchers speculated the protective role of breast milk on the brain may have had greater benefits for boys because they are more vulnerable during critical development periods.

Another possibility related to the positive effects of nursing on the mother-child relationship.
