Visitation Thursday For Woman Killed In Brampton Crash

A visitation will be held Thursday for a woman killed in a Brampton crash.

Sivanermaikkarasi Parameswaran, 41, died on December 22. She left behind her husband and their two children.

Parameswaran and her husband Vijayaratnam, 45, were out delivering newspapers when, police say, a silver Ford Focus collided with the couple’s silver Honda Civic.

It happened just before 5am at Central Park Drive and Bramalea Road.

Parameswaran was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband was rushed to hospital, as was a passenger in the Focus, an 18-year-old woman.

The driver of the Focus, an 18-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and later charged with various alcohol-related offences.

Parameswaran’s death has prompted renewed calls for sober driving, especially over the holidays.

During R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot checks, police said that while fewer people have been stopped compared to last year, the number of drivers who’ve been given a temporary suspension is up. In this year’s patrol, 150 received a suspension. Last year, it was 129. And 53 people have also been charged with impaired driving.
