BCAA wants to know if distracted driving law is working

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BCAA wants to know if you’ve stopped using a cell phone while driving since the province brought in its distracted driving law a year ago.  It’s asking people to fill out an online survey to find out whether the law is working.

A similar survey was conducted in the summer and the results were positive.

Over 20 per cent of people said they switched to hands free devices, 35 per cent said they pulled over to make their calls and 28 per cent said they stopped using a cell phone in the car altogether.

Trace Acres with BCAA says it will be interesting to see if anything has changed.  “We’re seeing continuing advertising continue about the dangers of distracted driving and about the law.”

Roughly 7,500 people filled out the survey last time around.

The current survey will be open until January 20th, with results being released at the end of the month.
