Locke & Lehner: Emergency recall in Ottawa

Injuries forced the Ottawa Senators to recall goaltender Robin Lehner and forward Corey Locke on an emergency basis Wednesday.

Lehner, the club’s top goaltending prospect, will replace Pascal Leclaire, while Locke replaces Alex Kovalev. The Senators also re-assigned goaltender Mike Brodeur and forward Jim O’Brien to Binghamton of the AHL.

Leclaire has missed much of the season with various lower body injuries while Kovalev is battling a knee issue.

Lehner will make his NHL debut on Thursday when the Ottawa Senators visit the New York Islanders. Senators head coach Cory Clouston, who usually does not announce his starting goalie until game day, broke with tradition and tabbed Lehner as his starter.

Corey Locke will also make his Senators debut in Thursday’s game, most likely centering a line with Ryan Shannon and Nick Foligno.

Locke, fresh off a four-point game for the Binghamton Senators on Tuesday night, is leading the AHL with 55 points.

Injuries are not the only concern for the Senators right now as tempers flared at the morning skate Wednesday. According to reports, Chris Campoli and Chris Neil got into a fight about 15 minutes into practice.

Ottawa currently sits 13th in the Eastern Conference standings and has dropped its last three games with a combined score of 11-3.
