Clemens sticking with ex-Pettitte lawyer

WASHINGTON — Baseball standout Roger Clemens says he’s not concerned that his lawyer briefly represented his former-teammate-turned-accuser Andy Pettitte.

Clemens told a federal judge in Washington on Wednesday that he waives any potential conflict involving his lawyer, Rusty Hardin. The attorney briefly represented both players three years ago just before the release of a report alleging they used performance-enhancing drugs.

Clemens denies the allegation, while Pettitte admitted he used human growth hormone and claimed Clemens admitted privately he did, too. Pettitte is expected to testify against Clemens on charges that he lied about the drug use during a trial scheduled for this summer.

Hardin told the judge that Clemens hired another lawyer outside his firm more than a year ago in anticipation of this issue and that lawyer will cross-examine Pettitte.
