RCMP head, William Elliott to step down from position in July

OTTAWA – Royal Canadian Mounted Police commissioner William Elliott will step down in duty, July.

The Canadian Press reported that Elliott was the first Commissioner of the RCMP, and has been Commissioner since July 2007.

The Canadian Press’ Murray Brewster reported that although he was the first civilian to hold the job, his tenure has caused trouble.

“In the last year, a number of senior RCMP members complained to the Federal government that Elliott was intimidating and an angry boss who alienated staff.”

“Prime Minister Stephen Harper is promising to consult the House of Commons Public Safety Committee on Elliott’s replacement,” said Brewster.
