Elderly Man Stabbed During Apparent Robbery

An elderly man has been stabbed multiple times in the head after an attack in the city’s east end near Eglinton Ave., just east of the DVP.

The victim, believed to be in his 60s, was found in the hallway of an apartment complex at 1 Eccleston Drive.

He was rushed to hospital with injuries considered serious but not life-threatening.

“It was pretty gruesome from the blood in the building.  Outside the front door there was quite a lot of (blood),” said resident Paul McNeil.

Police tell CityNews the suspect fled in the victim’s car, but abandoned the vehicle after crashing it into a tree.

It’s not yet clear if the victim was attacked inside his apartment, or in his car.

There are reports that the victim was also hit with a metal pipe or bar.

“It’s kind of scary, things like this are happening so close to home,” said area resident Connie Mallie.  You don’t want to let your kids out anymore.  Regardless, this is usually a safe neighbourhood…”

A man, reportedly blood-stained, was arrested not long after at Wynford and Eglinton and taken into custody for questioning.

There’s no word yet on charges.
