Suspect arrested for string of alleged underground garage thefts

Police arrested a man this week allegedly responsible for a string of underground garage thefts that caused nearly $30,000 in damage to dozens of vehicles.

The alleged thefts happened between the end of 2010 and this month at the Crossways, a commercial and residential complex at 2350 Dundas St. W. at Bloor, authorities said. The suspect was arrested Wednesday morning.

Toronto Police Const. Tony Vella said the alleged smash-and-grab style thefts caused $27,500 in damage. The suspect allegedly took GPS devices, wallets, cameras and loose change.

Authorities are reminding motorists to avoid leaving items of value in plain sight when they park their vehicles, including documents.

“Your ownership has your home address on it. So if you leave your ownership in your vehicle, they break into your car, they have your home address,” Vella told CityNews.ca.

Darryl Aquino, 33, is facing several charges, including 37 counts of mischief and 15 counts of theft.
