A crash on the Gardiner Expressway sent one vehicle into the path of an oncoming GO train, creating serious delays for commuters Monday morning.
Amazingly, no one was injured when the two cars crashed on the westbound Gardiner near Dowling Avenue around 6am. The impact of the collision sent one of the cars off the road, down an embankment and onto the tracks.
“We had westbound traffic travelling on the Gardiner. One vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, pushing that vehicle onto the GO train tracks. That vehicle was struck by a train,” Toronto Police Const. Kevin Dailey said.
The driver of the car got out before the train struck.
The accident caused delays of about 20 minutes on the Lakeshore East and West GO train lines and at around 8am GO closed two of four tracks in the area. The delays were cleared up by 10:30am.
