Young boy found wandering in the cold after nightmare

A four-year-old boy was found walking the streets of St. Catharines alone and without suitable clothing for the cold, snowy weather early Wednesday morning.
Niagara Regional Police said a resident spotted the boy on the sidewalk and stopped to lend a hand.
The young boy told officers he had suffered a nightmare and wanted to see his grandmother, who lives a short distance from his home in the area.
Police said the boy’s mother was unaware the child had left until the grandmother called her. Her bedroom is in the basement, while the young boy sleeps on the main floor, which allowed him to leave unnoticed.
The boy was in good health when he was discovered, and has been returned home safely.
Police gave the mother tips on how to avoid a similar instance from occurring.
