Pedestrian struck and killed in east end

Speed may have been a factor in a crash that killed a young woman in the east end Thursday night.

The 20-year-old pedestrian was hit by an eastbound van around 10:30 p.m. while crossing Sheppard Avenue East at Murison Boulevard, near Neilson Road. The victim was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead hours later.

The 33-year-old driver remained on the scene.

Authorities have been given conflicting statements about whether the traffic light was red or green when the woman was crossing.
