To be eligible to vote, you must be a Canadian citizen at least 18 years old on election day.

To vote, you must prove your identity and address. You have three options:

  • Show one piece of original identification with your photo, name, and address, like a driver’s licence. It must be issued by a government agency.

  • Show two pieces of authorized identification. Both pieces must have your name and one must also have your address. Example: health card and hydro bill.

  • Swear an oath and have an elector vouch for you. This person must have authorized identification and be from the same polling division as you and can only vouch for one person.

Electors can also vote by mail can or in person at their local Elections Canada office by special ballot. Electors who wish to vote this way must apply for their special ballot voting kit no later than 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 26. Applications are available here, by phone or in person at local Elections Canada offices and Canadian diplomatic or consular offices.
