MOSCOW — American ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White have won the world championship title.
The pair scored 185.27 to overtake Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, who scored 181.79.
Skating to a mix of music by jazz singer Diana Krall and Latin pop star Thalia, Virtue and Moir won silver at the world championships just six months after the 21-year-old Virtue underwent surgery on her legs.
Virtue, from London, Ont., and 23-year-old Moir, a native of Ilderton, Ont., became the youngest ever Olympic ice dance gold medallists last year in Vancouver and the first North Americans.
They went on to win the 2010 world championships in Turin, Italy.
