It has been almost three weeks since hackers took down Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN).
Since that day more than one hundred million people have had their personal information compromised, including credit card details.
Sony has announced that they hope to have the improved PSN back up and running soon however they may not have seen the last of the attacks by hackers.
Technology website CNET has reported that hackers will launch another assault on a Sony website over the weekend.
Sony has not announced the extent of the security advancements made to the PSN over the last three weeks but fans are hoping it will be enough to stop any possible future attacks that would cause any further delay to the relaunch of the online gaming system.
As an attempt to rebuild customer trust, Sony has offered its American customers who have been effected by the hack 12 months of $1-million theft insurance for free.
There has been no word on if the same deal will be offered to Canadian clients.
The latest numbers estimate over 100-million accounts have been affected by the hack.
On Thursday evening, Sony Corp. Chief Executive Howard Stringer made his first public comments since the network shutdown in a blog post. Stringer apologized for “inconvenience and concern” caused by the security breach said there had been “no confirmed evidence” that the stolen information has been misused.
On Tuesday a $1-billion class action lawsuit was filed against Sony by an Ontario woman on behalf of about one-million Canadian PlayStation and Qriocity users.
