One person was killed and Highway 10 was closed at Sideroad 20, just north of Orangeville, for several hours Friday after a collision involving a car and tractor trailer.
The tractor trailer, which was carrying peat moss, toppled, crushing the car and killing the driver.
“It was a very violent collision,” remarked P.C. Paul Nancekivell.
“We had to remove the peat moss out of the trailer before we could lift it off to gain access to the vehicle underneath…the smaller vehicle ended up right underneath pinned by the tractor trailer.”
CityNews has also learned that the Ministry of Environment has been called in after a substance spilled from the rig.
The cause of the accident hasn’t yet been determined and police wouldn’t say if speed was a factor.
An investigation is ongoing.
