eHealth contract contender linked to previous scandal

A company that employs two executives connected to the eHealth scandal could be awarded a lucrative contract with the Ontario government.

Telus Health Solutions GP was one of two companies that pre-qualified earlier this week to bid for an upcoming contract to develop Ontario’s electronic drug-information system for eHealth Ontario and Infrastructure Ontario.

Senior executives with Telus Health Solutions, Michael Guerriere and Dave Wattling, both held top jobs at Courtyard Group, which was at the epicentre of the eHealth scandal two years ago after millions in untendered contracts were handed out to Liberal-friendly firms.

Despite their association, eHealth Ontario defended the decision.

“The pre-qualified companies demonstrated the experience, the qualified resources and the financial strength to develop and deliver a drug information system of this size and complexity for all Ontarians,” eHealth Ontario said in a Tuesday release.

The revelation upset Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives on Thursday.

PC critic Lisa MacLeod said the optics of having Guerriere and Wattling in the running are terrible, adding that the bidding plans “don’t pass the sniff test.”
