Several fatal weekend crashes on GTA roads

TORONTO, Ont. – Thousands of motorists made their way back home, Monday, from cottage country and other long weekend vacation destinations.

Police across the GTA are already investigating several fatal crashes that took the life of at least six people.

A woman was killed Sunday in a crash near Highway 400 and 12 Mile Bay Road. OPP investigators are looking into the circumstances, but have said it appears the vehicle left the road and struck a rock.

Meanwhile, on Saturday a 19-year-old died after an off-road accident in northern Ontario near Temiskaming. A 23-year-old Hamilton man was charged with impaired driving causing death in the accident.

The SIU, Ontario’s police watchdog, is investigating a Sunday morning crash outside of Morrisburg, near Ottawa, that left one person dead and three others injured. Initial reports indicate an officer was passing another vehicle when the two cars collided and went off-road.

The SIU is also investigating after a 15-year-old driver near Hamilton was killed when his vehicle flipped during a police chase.

A 46-year-old Oshawa man was also killed Saturday after he lost control of his vehicle near Bowmanville.

Police are also investigating after a scuba diver was killed in the waters near Tobermory.

OPP also responded to an emergency situation on Lake Erie on Monday where initial reports claimed a boat had overturned with three people on board.
