Rogers Media to launch FX Canada this fall

Rogers Media Inc. and FX Networks are teaming up to launch FX Canada, a new digital channel set to debut here this fall.

FX, which is in nearly 100 million U.S. homes, is behind popular American shows such as the award-winning drama series Sons of Anarchy and Justified as well as comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, and Louie.

“There is a strong appetite in Canada for FX’s content and Rogers is thrilled to bring this award-winning programming to Canada,” said Scott Moore, president of broadcasting at Rogers Media Inc.

“In addition to delivering FX’s unique content, the launch of FX Canada provides an additional outlet for Rogers Media to strategically invest in top tier homegrown series over time.”

The new FX Canada channel will begin broadcasting on Nov. 1 and will air FX original series, U.S. acquired movies and series, original Canadian programming, and Canadian sports events, the companies said in a statement Saturday.

Among the confirmed shows to air on FX Canada at launch: American Horror Story; Wilfred; The League; Louie; Sons of Anarchy; Lights Out; and Terriers.

The entire programming schedule will be announced closer to launch.

Under the terms of the agreement, any new original FX programs produced by FX Productions or Twentieth Century Fox Television will air on FX Canada.

Rogers Media is the parent company of Citytv as well as other TV channels, including Rogers Sportsnet, OLN and OMNI Television.
