A family that the Federal Court ruled was wrongfully deported to Albania will return to Canada on Thursday afternoon.
The Tabaj family will be reunited with supporters at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport around 2:45 p.m. ET on a flight from Rome.
In June 2009, Arjan Tabaj, his wife Anilda, a daughter and twin sons were deported and have spent the last two years in hiding in Albania fearing for their safety.
A Liberal Party release said Tabaj is a partially paralyzed survivor of an assassination attempt during elections in Albania.
The federal court ruling compelled the government to issue temporary resident permits and visas to facilitate the Tabaj family’s immediate return to safety in Canada.
Supporters, including former Etobicoke MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj, will be present at the airport to greet the Tabaj family.
