Ontario auditor general’s annual report due Monday

Ontarians will find out just how much value they’re getting for their tax dollars when the provincial auditor general’s report is released Monday.

Jim McCarter conducted 13 audits of ministries and agencies to assess how well they’re spending funds and, as is usually the case, it’s expected to highlight instances of government waste.

The audit scrutinized the province’s renewable energy efforts and whether policies were implemented effectively.

Consumer protection policies and the delivery of health care services are also expected to play high in the report.

And the province will learn how well it has addressed the needs of at-risk students when McCarter delivers his verdict on the performance of the education system.

Last year, McCarter highlighted overcrowding in hospital emergency rooms and the lack of action on properly spending federal stimulus funds.
