Police are looking for a man who allegedly stole the cellphone of a Breakfast Television host last week.
Jennifer Valentyne put her BlackBerry down while paying for clothes at the Gap at Scarborough Town Centre. She forgot the phone and left the store, and when she went back to get it, it was gone.
“I didn’t care about the BlackBerry,” Valentyne said. “You can always get another BlackBerry. And — again this is my fault — I didn’t download all my video, my kids singing, playing the piano and some pictures I’d taken. And that was the most upsetting thing. I felt like he just took a piece of my life away.”
Const. Tony Vella said people often feel embarrassed when their inattentiveness leads to theft.
“No one has a right to take your property,” Vella said. “The one thing I urge people to do is always call police. If you have been victimized, always call police.”
Officers have released security video and images of the man caught in the act.
He is white, about 25 years old, five-feet-eight to five-feet-10, about 140 pounds, with a thin build, goatee and black hair. He was wearing a black jacket, a multi-coloured sweater and jeans.
