Toronto’s underground walkways could be expanded to waterfront

Toronto’s underground pedestrian walkways, already cited as the world’s longest subterranean shopping complex, could be getting even bigger.

The city will consider expanding the underground PATH system, extending it south towards the waterfront, the Globe and Mail reports.

City council is expected to vote on the draft plan in 2012. If approved, work would be completed in 2015.

The underground system is home to 1,200 shops and services, currently employing around 5,000 people.
