Striking YRT workers refuse to vote on latest offer

Striking York Region Transit workers have refused to vote on the latest offer from their employer.
Two-hundred members of ATU Local 113 met at the Monte Carlo Inn in Vaughan to consider a contract with wage hikes from two to three per cent.
Shouting “no deal!” as the local’s president read out the proposal, they decided not to vote on what they call a “piece of crap.”
The most contentious issue is health care benefits. The union wants full coverage, but the bus company is offering 50-50 over three years, and 75 per cent coverage in the fourth.
Veolia Transportation says they are disappointed to learn that ATU Local 113 rejected their amended deal and are encouraging employees to contact their union representative to encourage a vote on the offer.
The strike, which began Oct. 24, has disrupted 60 per cent of bus service in York Region.
