Air India passengers stranded at Pearson over Christmas

Hundreds of passengers are spending their Christmas not with family and friends, but at Pearson International Airport after their Air India flight was delayed four times.

Air India Flight 188, which was scheduled to leave Pearson at 11:50 a.m. on Friday bound for New Dehli, was delayed because of mechanical problems. The flight left Monday at 12:22 p.m.

The rescheduled flight was little consolation to frustrated passengers, who have spent days waiting.

“I was in the airport for three days. Half of our vacation we are spending here. And for this time of the year…we paid top dollars to fly to our home,” said passenger Rohit.

“It’s terrible for everybody. We are sad. We are upset.”

“My family left earlier, there’s nobody at home, and I’m totally stranded. I don’t know what to do now,” said passenger Paul Singh.

The airline has been supplying passengers with meal and hotel vouchers.

“We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers,” the Air India letter said on Sunday.
