Leafs’ coach Ron Wilson hints at extension through Twitter

TORONTO, Ont. – It appears Ron Wilson’s Christmas wish has come true, after the Leafs’ head coach took to Twitter Christmas morning to say he had received a contract extension.

Wilson Tweeted that “He came! He came!” Remember saying that as a little kid? Well he did: I got a new Red Ryder BB gun and a contract extension!”

There has been no official confirmation from the team, but reports indicate the head coach indeed received an extension.

David Alter, the Maple Leafs reporter for Sportsnet 590 the Fan, says the extension shouldn’t come as a complete shock.

“It’s not really surprising when you factor that when the season started Leafs GM and President Brian Burke said he would give head coach Ron Wilson if they got off to the kind of started he wanted,” Alter said.

While the Maple Leafs start has had its ups-and-downs, they remain in the playoff race and have shown flashes of promise.

If the Leafs don’t make the playoffs, Alter says that Burke will likely find himself in the hot seat.

There are no details on the terms of the contract.
