Steep drop in temperature ovenight could cause flash freeze

A mixture of wet snow and rain began falling in Toronto Tuesday afternoon, assuring a messy rush hour commute.
But the real weather worry comes later in the evening and overnight hours, when a sudden drop in temperatures could result in a flash freeze that threatens to wreak havoc with the morning drive to work.
“We have this arctic air mass that it on the move from northwestern Ontario,” said CityNews meteorologist Adam Stiles. “As we go through the overnight is when we are going to see this, probably past 2 a.m.”
“We are expecting a steep drop in temperatures over a short period of time…and it looks like it’s going to be happening close enough to that morning commute to impact that morning drive.”
“Everything is going to freeze over,” Stiles warns.
The messy weather even began to impact travelers Tuesday night, with officials at Porter Airlines confirm their flight status prior to arriving at the airport.
City crews are preparing for the worst, with salters loaded and on standby. Driver should give themselves extra time on Wednesday morning.
