The City of Vaughan has a new unofficial slogan, after a new song, written by Vaughan’s mayor himself, caught the attention of the city.
The city, once referred to as the “City Above Toronto,” is now being unofficially referred to as “The Place to be,” named after the new song.
Rumour has it Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua wrote the song after waking up in the middle of the night last May. After writing for two hours the mayor titled the ode “Vaughan is the Place to be,” and went back to bed.
It didn’t take long for the tune to start being sung at the mayor’s gala by local recording artist Carlo Coppola. The song title has even made its way into several speeches by the mayor.
It remains to be seen whether Vaughan will adopt a new official slogan, after ditching the title “The City Above Toronto” in 2010.
