Jays officially sign Oliver, designate Teahen

The Toronto Blue Jays spent some cash on Monday, signing free agent reliever Darren Oliver and designating Mark Teahen for assignment.
Oliver’s deal is for one-year and $4 million with a $3 million club option for 2013.
In order to make room on the club’s 40-man roster, the Jays designated utilityman Teahen and his $5.5 million 2012 salary for assignment.
The 41-year-old Oliver spent the past two seasons with the Texas Rangers and posted a 2.29 ERA in 51 innings in 2011. The 18-year MLB veteran has played for eight teams in his career.
The 30-year-old Teahen, who will earn the $5.5 million reagrdless of whether he plays in the majors or minor leagues in 2012, was acquired by Toronto along with Edwin Jackson in the July 27 trade with Chicago that sent Jason Frasor and Zach Stewart to the White Sox. Jackson was later flipped to the St. Louis Cardinals as part of the package for Colby Rasmus.
In 47 plate appearances with Toronto, Teahen had one home run, three RBIs and posted a line of .190/.261/.286/.547.
