U.S. study finds red wine can help prevent breast cancer

A new study suggests sipping on some red wine can help women prevent breast cancer.

The study from Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles found that women who enjoy a regular glass of red wine reduce their risk of breast cancer.

For the study, 36 pre menopausal women were randomized to drink either Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay daily for almost a month.

They found that the women who drank eight ounces of the red wine nightly for a month had lower oestrogen levels and higher testosterone.

Researchers say the results do not mean that white wine increases the risk of breast cancer but that grapes used in those varieties may lack the same protective elements found in reds.

The study was published online in the Journal of Women’s Health.
