Mayweather gets license for fight vs. Cotto

LAS VEGAS — Nevada authorities are granting Floyd Mayweather a one-fight license to take on Miguel Cotto in a Cinco de Mayo matchup.
The Nevada Athletic Commission granted the permit at a hearing Wednesday in Las Vegas on the condition that Mayweather fulfil requirements of a sentence in a domestic battery case. He’s due to report for a 90-day jail term on Jun. 1.
Mayweather pleaded guilty Dec. 21 to a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges as part of a plea deal. Prosecutors dropped felony and misdemeanour charges that could have gotten him 34 years in prison.
Authorities say the case stems from a hair-pulling, punching and arm-twisting argument with Josie Harris, the mother of three of Mayweather’s children.
