Toronto matchmaker is anti-Valentine’s Day

A Toronto matchmaker who is staunchly anti-Valentine’s Day suggests throwing a party to combat the Hallmark holiday.

“I’m the only one in the industry that hates Valentine’s Day,” Stacie Ikka, founder of SittingInATree.com, said on Breakfast Television Monday.

Even happy singles can feel overwhelmed by the pressure of the day, Ikka said. She suggests breaking out of your dating rut and opening up your social circle with a large dinner.

“Invite five other single friends and have them bring one friend who is also single. Then you’ve got a dinner for 12 and you can make it a potluck,” she advises.

“Chances are, your friend is bringing someone you haven’t met yet.”

That creates the opportunity to meet new people in a low-pressure situation.
