Devils’ Clarkson leaves feet, gets off

New Jersey Devils winger David Clarkson will not face supplemental discipline for the dubious hit (above) he leveled on New York Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky on Monday night, according to multiple reports.
With 32.4 seconds remaining in the second period of the Devils’ 2-0 loss to the Blueshirts, Clarkson left both feet as he jumped to check Dubinsky.
Clarkson did not make contact with the Ranger’s head or cause significant injury. He did, however, spark a fight with his opponent.
Clarkson could still receive a warning call and potentially a fine from the NHL’s senior vice president of player safety, Brendan Shanahan.
The Toronto native is in the midst of a career year, having scored 24 goals and 10 assists in 64 games. He has also matched last season’s 116 penalty minutes despite playing 20 fewer games at this point.
“Clarkson can be a good player. I just don’t know what that was for,” Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist told the New York Post after the game. “I mean, enough already.”
