Sidney Crosby cleared for contact, concussion-like symptoms abate

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been cleared for contact, a big step toward his return from concussion-like symptoms.

One Toronto doctor warns coming back from concussion symptoms so soon could be risky.

Crosby said he’s practising with the team this week, having had no concussion symptoms for a few days.

But Dr. Charles Tator, a brain surgeon at Toronto Western Hospital, said he would have waited a few weeks before clearing the Pittsburgh Penguins captain for contact.

“I’m very cautious because I’ve seen many players like this and it doesn’t take much to get them over the edge,” Dr. Tator said.

Because Crosby has suffered a few concussions already, Tator predicts the next one will likely force him out of the game for good. And he said it may not be a high impact hit that does it.

Crosby could be back in the game as early as Sunday.
