Man falls through ice while saving dog

A man fell through the ice while trying to save his dog in Richmond Hill on Wednesday morning.

York regional police say it happened around 8 a.m. as the man was walking his dog near Bathurst Street and Rutherford Road.

The dog went through the ice and into the shallow pond. But when he tried to save the animal, the man fell in too.

The dog climbed out, and a passerby pulled the man out using a rope.
