College and university tuition cap extended by 1 year

Ontario college and university tuition increases will be capped at five per cent for another year, the provincial government announced Thursday.
“Ontario will place a moratorium on increasing or establishing flat and deferral fees for 2012-13,”
Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Glen Murray said in a release.
There are no plans to standardize tuition fees, as one news outlet reported.
“No changes are being contemplated that would require all universities to set standard tuition fees for arts and science programs,” Murray added.
The province will continue to provide a 30 per cent rebate on tuition for college and university students for many families, the government said in the release.
“Ontario continues to have one of the most generous student aid packages in the country. It’s our plan to eliminate the deficit while protecting education,” Murray said.
