The Ottawa Senators might be getting some needed help from overseas.
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Senators prospect Jakob Silfverberg is heading to Ottawa on Sunday and could join the lineup as soon as next week.
Silfverberg, who has an entry-level deal with the Senators, is eligible to play in the playoffs and could make his NHL debut in Game 6 in Ottawa. The Senators drafted the Swedish forward 39th overall in 2009.
It is unclear what the Senators’ plans are for the 21-year-old but it will likely come to down to whether or not captain Daniel Alfredsson is healthy enough to play after suffering a concussion in Game 2.
Silfverberg was named the Swedish league MVP with 54 points in 40 games. He reportedly turned down the opportunity to play at the world championships after winning the Swedish championship with Brynäs IF.
The best-of-seven series is tied 2-2 and Game 5 takes place in New York on Saturday night.
