Obama charms celebs at White House Correspondents’ dinner

Movie and television stars rubbed shoulders with politicians and pundits at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.
Actress Lindsay Lohan, who was reported to have missed her original flight from Los Angeles to D.C. on Friday, arrived in plenty time for the dinner, wearing a long black dress with a plunging neckline.
The 25-year-old star is on the comeback trail after being released from formal probation last month stemming from a 2007 drunk driving and cocaine possession arrest.
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian was asked about rumors she is considering running for mayor of the Californian town of Glendale.
“You know what? I’m really passionate about the Armenian community and I know that Glendale has a really high Armenian population there, so I always set my goals really high,” she said on the red carpet.
“There is potential.”
Sofia Vergara, who stars in the series Modern Family, said she was looking forward to seeing the president for the second time today.
“Well, I already met the president today and the first family at the White House so now I just get to maybe see them again,” she said.
Actress Sigourney Weaver talked about her upcoming TV show Political Animals, which debuts in the summer.
“It is about, maybe, the price you pay for being in the White House with your family and it is a great, kind of old fashioned drama about this dysfunctional family,” she said.
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s daughter Linda is rumored to make an appearance on the show. Weaver and Powell exchanged a kiss on the cheek on the red carpet.
Also in attendance were actress Anna Paquin, accompanied by her True Blood co-star and husband Stephen Moyer and actresses Charlize Theron, Viola Davis, Ginnifer Goodwin, Eva Longoria, Kate Hudson and Kerry Washington.
Republican Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich and his wife Callista Gingrich also walked the red carpet.
The White House Correspondents’ Association has held its annual dinner since 1920.
