Boy, 6, rescued from Toronto pool

Toronto police are crediting a lifeguard and a camp counselor with saving the life of a six-year-old boy after a near-drowning on Thursday.

He was attending a summer camp run out of Vaughan Road Academy School, near Oakwood Avenue, and was swimming in the community pool around 2:20 p.m.

It’s not known exactly what happened, but the unconscious child was pulled from the pool. His breathing was laboured, police said, but staff quickly performed CPR.

“The lifeguard and the camp counselor did a fantastic job- – it would have been tragedy if they hadn’t of acted immediately like they did,” Const. Scott Villiers told CityNews.

“Their actions probably saved the child’s life.”

The child is now conscious and breathing, police said. His name hasn’t been released.
