City council votes yes to cost of living pay increase

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto city council is saying yes to a raise.

The Toronto Sun reports all 44 city councillors have decided against opting out of a 3-per cent retroactive cost of living pay hike, that will push their earnings to $103-thousand a year.

Even deputy mayor Doug Holyday, who has turned down past pay hikes, says he is considering accepting this year because he has not had a pay hike in four years.

However, Mayor Rob Ford’s office says he will not accept his pay hike, which would have bumped his salary to $172-thousand-a-year.
