TIFF Day 2: Premieres include Argo, Anna Karenina & Spring Breakers

Ryan Gosling, Jude Law and Keira Knightley were just some of the Hollywood A-listers who walked the red carpet Friday for their new movies premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Day 2 of TIFF included the world premiere of The Place Beyond the Pines, starring Canada’s Gosling and his girlfriend Eva Mendes, plus Bradley Cooper and Ray Liotta.
They walked the red carpet before the film began 6 p.m. at the Princess of Wales Theatre.
The North American premiere of Spring Breakers, about four broke students on a fling in Florida, also happened Friday in Toronto. The movie stars James Franco and Selena Gomez who will be with her boyfriend, Canada’s heartthrob Justin Bieber. The actors were on the red carpet at Ryerson Theatre before the film began at 6 p.m.
The world premiere of Imogene, a comedy about a washed-up playwright who fakes her own suicide to get her ex’s attention, stars Kristen Wiig, Matt Dillon and Annette Bening. The stars walked the red carpet before the film played 3 p.m. at Ryerson Theatre.
It was also the international premiere of the much-anticipated film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel Anna Karenina. Knightley, Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson walked the red carpet before the film began at 6 p.m. at the Elgin Theatre.
Ben Affleck’s thriller Argo about a CIA infiltration expert who concocts a plan to get six Americans out of Tehran in 1979 had its world premiere at Roy Thomson Hall on Friday evening.
These are just some of the films premiering at the 37th annual film festival, which runs until Sept. 16.
