HALIFAX, NS – Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall in New Jersey later this weekend as a post-tropical storm.
The system is likely to combine with a winter storm bringing rain, wind and even snow in what American forecasters have dubbed a “Frankenstorm”.
Bob Robichaud with the Canadian Hurricane Centre says the Maritimes will feel the affects but they won’t be as severe as areas to the south.
“Potentially, brief heavy downpours but it’s not showing any huge amounts of rain. We’re probably going to see the winds start to increase during the day on Monday,” Robichaud notes.
Robichaud doesn’t expect snow in the Maritimes but he adds areas on the western side of the system, including eastern Ontario and Quebec, could see some white stuff.
