Vaughan Mills mall will undergo an $87-million expansion and redevelopment that will add 50 new retailers and 100,000 square feet of floor space to the already-sprawling shopping hub in the heart of Vaughan.
Construction is slated to begin in the spring.
Once completed it will boast 1.1 million square feet of retail space, Ivanhoé Cambridge, which owns the mix of factory outlets and specialty concept stores, announced Wednesday.
Over 13.5 million people visit the shopping centre yearly, and Vaughan Mills manager Stephen Cascoine believes Wednesday’s announcement will see those numbers climb.
“We are thrilled to bring the exceptional shopping experience at Vaughan Mills to a whole new level,” he said.
“Undoubtedly, consumers here and abroad will consider Vaughan Mills to be Canada’s unparalleled, must-see shopping, leisure and entertainment destination.”
Vaughan Mills will become the third major shopping centre in the GTA to undergo a costly transformation.
In November, Yorkdale Mall unveiled its $220-million expansion that included 27 new stores and a new food court.
And work on a $350-million facelift is currently underway at Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke. That project will include new stores, a new second-level food court and a new three-level parkade. The work began in January and will take around 45 months to finish.
Vaughan Mills Expansion highlights:
