For Families: Spend an afternoon reading with the people behind your kids’ favourite books, including Paper Bag Princess author Robert Munsch and Ojibway storyteller Aaron Bell. Yes, the author and illustrator behind Captain Underpants will also be in attendance. Ontario Science Centre. 770 Don Mills Rd. For Visitors: Find a new tchotchke and pick up the latest tips at the Interior Design Show. Exhibits and experts abound at the event, which has been running since 1998. Metro Toronto Convention Centre, 255 Front W. Until Sunday. Times vary. $15-$25. interiordesignshow.com
For Singles: Throw back a shot for Robbie Burns at one of many celebrations for the Scottish poet. A dram of whiskey makes a perfect chaser to a slice of haggis. The Caledonian, which bills itself as the city’s only authentic Scottish pub, is hosting a weeklong series of events, while in the east end, McGugan’s in Leslieville is hosting a dinner on Friday. Tickets: $50.
For Charity: Performers from all over Toronto are coming together to raise money for girls all over the world. Comedians, dancers, musicians and actors will perform in Shine Cabaret to benefit the Because I Am A Girl campaign. Studio Danzon, 104-2480 Dundas St. W. For Kicks: Take a peek behind closed doors at one of Toronto’s oldest hotels as the Gladstone opens up to artists’ installations.
