Only days away from the Federal Liberals announcing their new pick for leader, we are hearing that front-runner Justin Trudeau and NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair may be distantly related.
Ancestry.ca is reporting that the two politicians may actually be ninth cousins, related through a distant grandparent.
“They have an eighth great grandparent in common, and those grandparent’s names were Mathieu Amiot and Marie Miville,” says Lesley Anderson from Ancestry.ca.
So could this revelation turn the House of Commons into one big episode of Family Feud? Anderson says the the great grandparents were married back in 1650 in the former town of Quebec, well before Canada even became a country.
The Liberals and NDP also have not made any suggestions that they would consider some sort of a coalition ahead of the next federal election.
This isn’t the fire time some interesting family connections have been found in federal politics. During the 2006 election it was revealed that Prime Minister Stephen Harper is a distant cousin of actor Robb Wells.
Wells is best known for playing the character Ricky in the Trailer Park Boys.
