Man charged with manslaughter after downtown attack

A 52-year-old Toronto man has been charged with manslaughter after an attack downtown a week ago.

Police found the victim dead on Tuesday in an apartment near Dundas and Sherbourne streets while responding to a call to check the home.

The autopsy results haven’t been released, but it’s alleged Hussein Sobrie, 45, had died from an assault in the area on July 6, three days before.

On Friday, police charged Derrick “Congo” Witter with manslaughter.

He was due in an Old City Hall court on Saturday morning.

Police have released a security camera photo (above) of the outfit Sobrie was wearing at the time of the alleged assault.

They’d like anyone who saw the victim or the crime to call them at 416-808-7424.

Sobrie is black, five-foot-four, 110 pounds, with black and grey hair, a moustache and goatee. He was wearing a long-sleeved black dress shirt, black pants, black dress shoes and a black fedora.
