Man killed in shooting at Brampton banquet hall

A 25-year-old man was shot and killed at a party in Brampton on Sunday morning.

Peel police Const. Thomas Ruttan said it happened around 4:15 a.m. inside the Bovaird Banquet Hall on Bovaird Drive West, near Hurontario Street.

The victim was shot in the chest and died at the scene.

He has been identified as Ricky Ricardo Dunkley of Hamilton.

Police say evidence at the scene has lead them to believe there may be a second victim and they are asking anyone who may have information on this victim to come forward.

“One homicide is too many in any city,” Ruttan said. “We take this very seriously and we will do our very best to make sure that we find who is responsible.”

Police took one person in for questioning, but it’s not yet clear how he was involved.

Ruttan said officers are still looking for suspects and the canine and forensics units were helping homicide detectives with the investigation.

“There was a function going on at the time and so there were many people in attendance,” he said.

“We are appealing to those people to come forward with any information that they may have as to what took place.”
