TORONTO – A 23-year-old man was charged in connection with a fatal crash in the city’s west-end Tuesday.
The three-vehicle collision involving a taxi cab occurred at Royal York Road and Lawrence Avenue West just before 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
Toronto police allege the accused got into a fare dispute with a taxi driver on Monday, then allegedly stole the cab and ran a red light — causing a crash involving two other vehicles.
The crash left a 60-year-old Toronto man dead and a 39-year-old woman — the victim’s daughter who was in the passenger seat — in hospital.
Abokar Ahmed Ali is facing 13 charges, including dangerous driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, and three counts of failing to stop after an accident.
The area was closed to traffic for several hours while police completed their investigation at the scene.
