Etobicoke woman appears in court after attack on son

A woman charged with attempting to murder her 11-year-old son in their Etobicoke apartment appeared in an Old City Hall court briefly on Saturday morning.

The 32-year-old, whose name is being withheld to protect the child, showed no emotion as her case was adjourned until Tuesday morning.

She has also been charged with aggravated assault and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the 12th floor of a building on Eva Road, near Bloor Street West and Highway 427, by people who had heard terrified screams coming from the apartment.

Police found the boy with severe head injuries, and he was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

There were two other children in the apartment who are now in the care of the Children’s Aid Society.
